Title of Job: Drain Layer/Plumbing Support Technician

 

Summary:

The Plumbing Support Technician is responsible for assisting the plumbing install team with tasks such as assembling, connecting, and constructing pipe systems for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains. The Plumbing Support Technician would also be responsible for ensuring the ground is prepped and trenches are dug out for the pipe systems to be put in place. Once pipe systems are aligned, it would also be this person’s responsibility to seal the joints together with glue, cement, etc. and fill in trench with desired material.

 

Qualifications:

  • Must be self-motivated, team oriented, reliable, hardworking, a great communicator, and positive in every situation.
  •  Two years of plumbing experience is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities:

  • Configure pipe routes.
  • Align pipes in pipeline sections.
  • Dig trenches with trenching tools.
  • Slide pipe into trenches.
  • Tell tractor driver where to move pipe in preparation for repairs or site work.
  • Insert spaces in between pipes.
  • Pull out defective or misaligned pipes.
  • Inspect places where pipes are fitted together to ensure pipes are spaced out properly and according to specifications.
  • Lay pipe for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains.
  • Grade trenches or culverts.
  • Seal joints.
  • Use glue or welding equipment to ensure pipes are tightly fitted.
  • Ensure pipes are fitted and aligned using grade rods or transit levels.
  • Cover pipes with dirt or other material.
  • Drill holes into pipes for auxiliary lines.
  • Perform continual maintenance on pipes and replace those needing repair.
  • Utilize magnetic or radio indicators.

Requirements:

To adequately perform the duties of this job the employee is regularly and routinely required to sit; stand, walk, stoop, use hands to finger, handle controls; hear, and talk. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must be able to climb ladders, work in hot and cold environments, and work in small crawl spaces. The employee must regularly lift and/or move 80lbs and up. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.  

The work environment can vary depending on the season in Missouri and scope of work - employees are required to work outdoors throughout the seasons.  The work environment will subject employees to continual interruptions and changing priorities. Effective, consistent, and constant communication with customers, vendors, co-workers, and others is required.
